Who is responsible for your data

John Eduar Zuluaga Ranzón, an Industrial Engineer registered with COPNIA (professional registration 091239-0748887 CNDB), based in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. In legal terms I am the data controller (“responsable del tratamiento”) for this website, www.buildincolombia.com.

What data I collect and why

  • Contact form. Your name, email, phone number (optional), the service you are interested in and your message. Purpose: to answer your enquiry and, if you ask for it, prepare a proposal. Legal basis: your consent (the box you tick before sending) and steps you request before a possible contract.
  • Email, phone and WhatsApp. If you write or call, I receive what you send me plus your email address or phone number. Same purpose and legal basis.
  • Analytics (only if you accept). Pages visited, approximate location (country and city level), device and browser type, the page that sent you here, and clicks on email, phone, WhatsApp and main buttons. When the form is sent successfully, one “form sent” count is recorded; the content of your message is never sent to analytics. Purpose: to learn which pages are useful and improve them. Legal basis: your consent.
  • Hosting records. The hosting provider processes technical data such as your IP address and the requested page to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a working, secure website.

I do not ask for sensitive data (health, ethnicity, religion, etc.), passport or bank details through this site. Please do not send them in the form. I do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • Before you choose, or if you reject: no analytics cookies are set and no Google script is loaded.
  • Your choice: the site saves it in your browser’s local storage (key bic_consent) so it does not ask again on every page. It is asked again after about six months. This is not shared with anyone.
  • If you accept: Google Analytics 4 sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID> to tell visits apart. Google’s default duration is up to two years.

You can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. If you reject after accepting, the analytics cookies are deleted and no further events are sent. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings.

Who receives your data

  • Vercel Inc.: hosts the website.
  • Web3Forms: receives what you type in the contact form and forwards it to my email.
  • Hostinger: provides the email service that stores the messages I receive.
  • Google (Google Analytics): only if you accept analytics cookies.
  • Meta (WhatsApp): only if you choose to message me on WhatsApp; its own privacy policy applies to that chat.

These providers act on my behalf, or for their own service as described above. I may also share data when the law requires it or to defend a legal claim. I do not sell or rent data.

International transfers

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries outside Colombia and the European Economic Area. I choose providers that publish safeguards for international transfers (for example standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework). By ticking the box in the contact form you accept that your message travels through them. If you prefer not to, write directly to john@buildincolombia.com.

How long I keep data

  • Enquiries: while we are in conversation and for up to 24 months after the last contact. If we sign a service agreement, records that the law or the agreement requires (for example accounting records) are kept for as long as required.
  • Analytics: no longer than 14 months, according to the retention setting of the analytics account.
  • Hosting records: according to the hosting provider’s standard retention.

Your rights

You can ask me at any time, free of charge, to:

  • know what data I hold about you and get a copy;
  • correct or update it;
  • delete it, restrict its use, or object to it;
  • receive it in a portable format (where it applies);
  • withdraw your consent or authorization. This does not affect what was done before you withdrew it.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK (GDPR), you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In Colombia (Ley 1581 de 2012 and its regulations), you can also ask for proof of the authorization you gave, be told how your data was used, and complain to the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC, sic.gov.co). Residents of other places: I apply the same rights on request.

To exercise any right, write to john@buildincolombia.com with the subject “Personal data”. Queries are answered within 10 business days (extendable once by 5 more, and I will tell you why). Complaints or claims are answered within 15 business days (extendable once by 8 more).

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, the form sends data over an encrypted connection, and access to my mailbox is restricted. No system is 100% secure, so please share only what is needed to describe your project.

Children

This site is for adults who are planning to buy or build property. It is not directed at people under 18 and I do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If I change how data is handled, I will update this page and the “last updated” date. If a change needs your consent, I will ask again.
